Network Sessions

Network Sessions allow band members to follow a bandleader who acts as the host. Connected clients receive real-time updates including the current song, queued songs, lyrics, PDF files, playback state, song position, and audio region state. Hosts can also enable remote control, allowing clients to control playback and manage the queue.

Note

All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Internet access is not required.

Tip

Use remote control to place the host device near the stage box while controlling it wirelessly from front of stage. This keeps cabling to a minimum and keeps the host safe from the action on stage.

Overview

Network Sessions Overview

Access Network Sessions from the Main view by opening the More Options menu and selecting Network Sessions.

The screen displays session settings at the top, a Start Hosting button, and a list of available sessions to join. Each session shows the name of the host and their network address.

The status indicator shows the current connection state: Discovering when searching for sessions, Hosting with the number of connected clients, Connected as a client, Connecting, or Connection Lost.

Session Settings

Device Name

The name displayed on remote devices to identify this device. Use unique names to distinguish between band members.

Remote Control Password

Set a password on the host to allow remote control. Clients with a matching password gain controller access, which includes access to the song library, loading songs, managing the queue, playback control, seeking, and audio region control.

Use the eye button to toggle password visibility.

Show Local Lyrics

Clients can display their own local lyrics or PDF files instead of those from the host. Matching is done by Title and Artist tags, which must match exactly including special characters.

Note

Enable this option if you use MIDI commands embedded in your lyrics to control your gear. This ensures your own MIDI commands are sent rather than those from the host.

Hosting a Session

To host a session:

  1. Set up a remote control password if you want to allow clients to control playback
  2. Tap Start Hosting

Once clients connect, you will see a list showing each client's name, connection status, time connected, and access level (Viewer or Controller).

Network Sessions Hosting

Swipe left on a client to disconnect them from the session.

Note

When remote control is enabled, clients can change songs while you are editing. This will abort the edit operation and unsaved changes will be lost.

Warning

Hosting a session prevents the device from sleeping. Stage Traxx will continue running and consuming battery as long as you are hosting.

Joining a Session

To join a session:

  1. Enter the remote control password if you want controller access
  2. Tap Connect next to a session in the Available Sessions list

When connected, the dialog shows which device you are connected to, the current network latency, and a Disconnect button.

Network Sessions Connected

Tap Disconnect to leave the session.

Tip

Use the Size Modifier setting to adjust the lyrics text size for your screen when the host's settings don't suit your device.

Viewer Mode

In viewer mode, you can open the queue sidebar but not the song list or playlist sidebar. Access to song details, the mixer, and assignable buttons is removed. The play button shows the playback status but cannot be pressed.

Controller Mode

In controller mode, you have full access to all sidebar views and your assignable controls. You can change song order and autoplay status in a playlist, but you cannot add new songs to playlists or edit playlist details. You cannot open song details or the mixer. You have full control over audio regions, and other clients will see when you change the playback mode.
