PDF Documents
Stage Traxx can display PDF documents during song playback, such as sheet music or chord charts. PDFs can be sent to external screens and network clients.
Note
Large scanned documents may cause transmission issues when sharing with network clients.
Attaching a PDF
To attach a PDF to a song:
- Open Song Details
- Tap PDF Document in the Song Information section
- Select a PDF from your device storage or cloud service
The selected file is copied into the song folder. When a song has both a PDF and text lyrics attached, a button in the top right corner allows you to switch between them. Stage Traxx remembers which document type you prefer.
Note
PDF files are only deleted from the system when no songs reference them.
Viewing and Navigation
Navigate through PDF documents using these gestures:
- Tap left edge: Tap the left 30% of the screen to scroll up one screen height
- Tap right edge: Tap the right 30% of the screen to scroll down one screen height
- Drag: Manually scroll the document
- Pinch: Zoom in or out

The buttons on the right side of the screen (from top to bottom):
- Document toggle: Switch between PDF and text lyrics (only visible when a song has both)
- Annotation editor: Open the annotation editor
- Scroll speed controls: Increase or decrease the automatic scroll tempo (only visible when autoscroll is enabled and no timecodes are present)
- Zoom controls: Zoom in and out of the document (you can also pinch to zoom)
Scaling Mode
The scaling mode determines how PDFs fit on screen. Configure this in Lyrics, Chords & PDF settings.
- Full Width: Scales the document to fill the screen width. Best for documents with small text or detailed notation.
- Full Height: Scales the document to fit the screen height. Displays an entire page at once without scrolling vertically.
- Two Pages: Displays two pages side by side. Ideal for landscape orientation on tablets.
Annotation Editor
You can draw annotations directly on your PDF documents. Access the annotation editor by tapping the Pencil Button in the top right corner when viewing a PDF.

The editor toolbar provides:
- Color selection: Choose the drawing color
- Pencil tools: Two solid-line drawing tools
- Highlighter: Transparent marking for emphasis
- Text tool: Add text annotations to the document
- Eraser: Selectively remove drawing annotations (does not erase text)
- Crop: Remove margins from the document
The navigation bar at the top provides Cancel and Save buttons, along with a Clear All button to remove all annotations from the document.
Annotations are saved directly to the PDF file. Cropping settings persist when sharing with network clients.
Adding Text Annotations

Activate the text tool and tap anywhere on the PDF to place a text box. Use the drag handle to move the text box and the resize handle to adjust its size. Use the toolbar to set the text color, font, size, and alignment. Tap outside the text box to finish editing.
Existing text boxes are highlighted with a blue background and can be selected for editing. To remove a text box, select it and delete all the text inside.
Autoscrolling
Stage Traxx offers two methods to automatically scroll through PDF documents during playback. Both methods require Autoscroll Enabled to be turned on in settings.
Warning
PDF documents will not scroll automatically unless you enable this setting.
Timestamp-Based Scrolling
Embed tags in the lyrics editor to scroll to specific positions at designated times. When playback reaches the specified time, the PDF automatically scrolls to the target location.
The basic format is:
[pdf@MM:SS.MS: p#.section]
- MM:SS - The time in minutes and seconds (use 2 digits for each, e.g.,
01:05) - .MS - Milliseconds (optional, use 2 digits if needed)
- p# - The page number (you can also use
page#) - .section - A number from 0-9 indicating the vertical position on the page (optional, defaults to 0 for the top of the page)
Examples
Scroll to the top of page 1 at the start of the song:
[pdf@00:00: p1]
Scroll to the middle of page 1 at 45 seconds:
[pdf@00:45: p1.5]
Scroll to the bottom of page 1 at 1 minute 30 seconds:
[pdf@01:30: p1.9]
Scroll to the top of page 2 at 2 minutes:
[pdf@02:00: p2]
Using milliseconds for precise timing:
[pdf@01:30.50: p2.3]
Place these tags anywhere in your lyrics. They are hidden during playback and only control PDF scrolling.
Constant Speed Scrolling
Constant speed scrolling continuously scrolls the PDF from top to bottom based on song duration. This method requires no manual timestamp entry. Adjust the scroll speed using the speed controls to match your reading pace. See Constant Speed Scrolling for details on how this works.
