Audio Regions

Audio regions let you divide a song into sections and control how each section plays back. This is useful for visualizing song structure during performance and for rearranging songs on the fly — extend an intro, skip a verse, loop a chorus, or pause for a speech.

To create and edit regions, see Song Details > Regions.

Playback Modes

Each region can be set to one of five playback modes:

  • Continue — Plays the region normally and continues to the next region.
  • Repeat Once — Repeats the region once (playing it twice) before continuing.
  • Repeat — Repeats the region indefinitely until you manually advance.
  • Created with Sketch. Skip — Jumps over the region entirely.
  • Created with Sketch. Pause — Stops playback at the end of the region.

Playback modes are represented with an icon, except Continue mode which has no icon. You can change a region's playback mode before or during playback to rearrange songs dynamically.

Note

Region mode changes during playback are not saved. Reloading a song resets all region modes to the values set in the Regions editor.

Interacting with Regions

Control regions via the top panel, assignable controls, or remote control.

Top Panel

Set the Top Panel to "Audio Regions" or "Waveform" to access region controls during playback:

  • Audio Regions — Shows buttons to select regions and change playback modes.

Top Panel in Audio Regions mode

  • Waveform — Shows a waveform visualization with colored regions. Tap to seek or select regions.

Top Panel in Waveform mode

Tap a region to select it (the region highlights). When playback is stopped, this also seeks to the start of the region. Tap the selected region again to cycle through the available playback modes, then deselect. When playback is running and reaches the end of the current region, it jumps to any selected region.

Assignable Controls & Remote Control

Both assignable controls and remote control offer the same region actions:

Action Description
Select Next Region Selects the next region
Select Previous Region Selects the previous region
Cycle Current Region Mode Cycles the playback mode of the currently playing region
Cycle Selected Region Mode Cycles the playback mode of the selected region
Toggle Current Region Loop Toggles repeat mode on/off for the currently playing region
Toggle Selected Region Loop Toggles repeat mode on/off for the selected region

The difference between "current" and "selected": the current region is always the one currently playing, while the selected region is either the current region or one you've selected by tapping or using the cycle commands. The selected region flashes to indicate it's active.

Note

Toggle loop only switches between Continue and Repeat modes, while cycle mode steps through all available modes. Skip mode is not available when cycling the current region because it's already playing and cannot be skipped.

Transitions

Stage Traxx transitions between regions only at region boundaries. When you select a new region or change playback mode, the change takes effect when playback reaches the end of the current region. This ensures smooth, musical transitions.

Note

Transitions require approximately half a second of preparation time before a region boundary.
