Remote Control
Stage Traxx can be controlled remotely using a variety of devices, including Bluetooth and USB MIDI controllers, Bluetooth keyboards, and page turners like AirTurn. You can connect multiple devices simultaneously and assign custom actions to triggers and sliders.
Access the Assign Actions dialog and AirTurn Setup from the More Options menu in the main view.
Supported Devices
MIDI Controllers
Bluetooth and USB MIDI devices can send triggers (notes, program changes) and continuous control (CC sliders for volume, etc.). Connect Bluetooth MIDI devices via Bluetooth MIDI Devices in settings.
Keyboards
Bluetooth and USB keyboards can trigger actions using single key presses. Most page turners also work as standard Bluetooth keyboards. Connect these devices through your device's system Bluetooth settings.
Tip
Keyboard devices can interfere with text input fields when editing lyrics or other content. They can also only control the foreground app, not an app running in the background. If this is an issue, consider using a Bluetooth MIDI controller instead.
Page Turners
Page turners like AirTurn can be connected either as standard Bluetooth keyboards (through system settings) or via AirDirect for supported models. See AirTurn Setup below. AirDirect does not have the limitations of keyboard mode — it won't interfere with text input and can control the app running in the background, just like MIDI.
Keyboard-based page turners just need to be connected through your device's regular Bluetooth settings.
Recommended
If you want to go with a keyboard-based page turner, we recommend the Coda Music STOMP and STOMP Mini. Use discount code STOMPTRAXX for 10% off.
Assign Actions

Actions are grouped by function area (playback, navigation, etc.). To assign a remote control to an action:
- Tap the Learn button next to the action
- Press the button or move the slider on your remote device
- The assignment is saved automatically
The icon next to each action indicates its type:
- Trigger (rounded rectangle): Activated by a button press — works with any remote device
- Slider (vertical bar): Controlled by continuous values — requires a MIDI control change
To remove an assignment, tap the grey X icon next to it. To remove all assignments at once, tap Clear All in the navigation bar.
Note
Reassigning a trigger that's already in use will remove it from the previous action.
Press vs. Release Triggers
MIDI triggers can activate either when pressing or releasing a button. To assign a trigger to the release action, press and hold the button before opening the Learn dialog, then release it while the dialog is shown.
Slider Behavior
MIDI sliders use pickup mode to prevent sudden volume jumps. When you move a physical slider, Stage Traxx waits until the slider position matches the current value before responding. This ensures smooth transitions when switching between songs with different volume levels.
AirTurn Setup
Stage Traxx supports AirTurn devices that use the AirDirect protocol for a direct connection without going through system Bluetooth settings.
To connect an AirTurn device:
- Make sure the device is turned on and in pairing mode
- Enable AirTurn Support in the Remote Control settings
- Tap on the discovered device to connect
Note
Make sure your AirTurn device has the latest firmware installed. Some devices may have connectivity issues with recent macOS/iOS versions.
